| Tep Thai Restaurant is located on an offbeat street in a mix-use, commercial area in the city of Glendale. The 2,000 square foot restaurant is landlocked between surrounding buildings; only allowing one face of the building to have access to the street. The restaurant is wedged in a small slot which used to be occupied by a jewelry store built in the 1920’s. The context around the restaurant is that of small commercial businesses, retail stores and small “Mom & Pop” restaurants.
The design takes its influences from minimal Asian architecture. The main challenge of this design was to create opportunities that made the space feel much larger than its 1,300 square foot print. The project attempts to explore simplicity and materiality at a micro scale.
