| Innovatively performing urban revitalization in an otherwise derelict industrial location in response to current housing demand in the downtown LA area was the goal of the eight, 5-story mix-use towers. The project is composed of 40 artist live-work units, 7 retail stores on the ground level and underground parking. The towers are tied together by a series of decks and ramps, which lead to a core elevator. Every unit has one or two folding glass walls, which allows the deck area to be part of the units. The deck can face the street, the inner courtyard, the mountains or downtown LA. The facades are very simple corrugated metal and glass. There are four basic unit plans. The single story, single story double height ceiling, the 1 ½ story double height with loft up above and the unconventional ½ story below ½ story above, also double height ceilings. |
