| Situated on 5,100 acres of land in New Delhi, India, the existing Indira Gandhi International Airport is proposed to undergo a four-phase modernization over the next 20 years. The new program proposes two additional runways, gates to accommodate 76 aircraft for both domestic and international traffic, approximately 1.2 million sf to accommodate a projected 42.8 million passengers per year, and parking for 8000 cars.
The ideal diagram is based upon taking advantage of the public-side activities to create a highly functional and memorable space, while simultaneously meeting the needs of a modern airport. The public side of the airport includes an underground train station connecting to the regional rail lines, a hotel, restaurants/retail outlets, ticketing, and a “Great Hall” for passenger drop-off and greeting arriving passengers.
