| This house, designed fifty years ago by this firm, has expanded and evolved to meet the requirements of at least four different owners. After forty years of serious deferred maintenance, the son of a former owner rehired the firm to begin restoration of this classic, mid-century modern. The ravages of time had been hard on the unprotected exposed beams, flat roof, asphalt driveway, etc. The original core plan was good and fit the site well, with all major rooms relating to the south view of Annandale Golf Course and the city beyond. However, the typical small bedrooms and baths; obsolete kitchen; no garage; lack of air conditioning with slab floor and no attic; and absence of any landscaping were all problems that needed a solution. They were resolved, the house was modified for the needs of the two latest owners, and the changes fit seamlessly with the original architecture. |
